Self-Determination…What is it?

Self-Determination is important for you, for me and for all people including those with disabilities. Can you imagine a life where your opinion about how your life should proceed is not valued?

A great tool for Self-Determination!

The National Gateway to Self-Determination (NGSD) Web Portal, a clearinghouse on resources, training, and information on Self-Determination. This site provides a single access for self-advocates, professionals, policy-makers and the general public on the current best practices and evidence-based activities in enhancing self-determination in the lives of people with developmental and intellectual disabilities, as well as any individual.

How to use it?

Click on RESOURCE GUIDE to search by age, topic, type of self determination, product type and more! There is a wealth of information online ready to use at home, school or in trainings. The LINKS section provides resources on more Self Determination topics and is also categorized by topic.

Attn: Medical Assistance ACCESS PLUS Consumers, Family Members, Providers, and Advocates

On March 1st, 2013, ACCESS PLUS will be phased out of Bradford, Carbon, Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Juniata, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Lycoming, Mifflin, Monroe, Montour, Northumberland, Pike, Schuylkill, Snyder, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Union, Wayne, and Wyoming Counties.

Everyone who has ACCESS PLUS must join a managed care plan by February 7th! Consumers who do not pick a plan by this date, will be auto-enrolled into one. (Consumers enrolled in United HealthCare Community Plan will also need to select a new plan.)

This change will impact how consumers access health care services and providers. Consumers, family members and professionals need to know: how coverage will change; which Managed Care Plan choices available; what to consider before choosing a plan; and what to do if the chosen plan isn’t meeting a consumer’s needs.

The following free trainings are being presented to educate consumers, advocates, community organizations, and providers:
