There will be a morning conference on Tuesday, October 16th, 2012 from 9am to 12:30pm. The spirit of this event is to introduce individuals, family members and professionals to what people, who live disabilities, need to make a successful transition from school to the world of work.
The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter will hold a public input session to solicit views, comments and perspectives from stakeholders in the Alzheimer’s community to provide input on the current National Alzheimer’s Plan.
For the first time an Out of the Darkness Walk will be held in Lackawanna County on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 9:00 AM. Starting at the Courthouse in downtown Scranton, this community event will support families and friends who have lost someone to suicide and raise monies for suicide prevention work which benefits our local community. It is a 3 mile walk through Scranton, passing agencies and organizations that serve many high risk populations, such as schools, colleges and universities, the Commonwealth Medical College, the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, and several older adult housing facilities. There will be a shorter walk around the Courthouse Square for those who want to participate but cannot do the longer walk. These walks are very healing for all the families affected and the Advocacy Alliance and many other community organizations have already contributed to the day. Please consider having a team to show your support at the Walk, though everyone is invited to join the event, even if you cannot join a team.
